Ko Para, (frost- fish), ko Ngairo, (conger-eel) ko Tuere, (blind eel) me Tuna,(river-eel) He mokopuna katoa ēnei nā Te Ihorangi, te atua o te ua.
I a rātau e heke mai ana i te rangi, ka tūtaki te rōpū nei i a Tāwhaki e piki ana ki ngā rangi.
Ka pātai atu a Tāwhaki, "he aha i whakarērea ai e koutou te rangi?"
He pātai
- He aha i tata atu ai te kāinga o ngā tuna ki te rā?
- He aha te mahi a Tāwhaki i ngā rangi?
Ēngari, kāore tētahi e hiahia, kia iti iho tētahi, i tētahi.
KO TIMI: A tēnā, e hia ngā tāera hopu tuna mōhio koe?
KO HEMI: E tā, mai te rapu ki te hīnaki, ko au te toa.
KO TIMI: E rua noaiho ēnā i whakahuatia e koe. Ka pēhea te pia, te toitoi, te hao, ā, te hura kōhatu pao atu hoki? E rima noa atu āku tāera.
KO HEMI: E hoa, nā te tamaiti ihu hūpe ēnā tāera. Kua mahia rāno e au he pā tuna . . .
KO TIMI: ...He aha hoki tēnā momo hopu tuna? He kimikimi pea nāu.
KO HEMI: (Meke pārekareka ana i a Timi). . . . . . . Anei titiro. Ka haere mai he tuna, ka ākina e te ia ki roto i ngā hīnaki nei. Kāore e puta. Maha ngā tuna ka mau.
KO TIMI: Kua harawene nei). . . Ā tēnā, he pēhea te tuna nui kua mau i a koe?
KO HEMI: (Kua toru ngā ringa o Hēmi ki ngā whānuitanga) Arā . . . pēnei te nui. He taniwha ke. I mau i ahau ki roto i te pā tuna nei.
KO TIMI: E tā, ko ngā kanohi noaiho tēnā o tāku. Nā te ringa noaiho i hopu.
KAIKŌRERO: Whawhai tonu atu ngā nanakia nei.
Hei mahi
He tika ēnei pātai mō nga kōrero 'Te tuna nioreore?' Āe, kāore rānei?
- E toru nga nanakia?
- He kimikimi noaiho te pā tuna nā Hēmi?
Ka ui mai a Ruiha, "E aha ana koe?"
Ka mea atu a Tama, "E rapu tuna ana."
Ka mea mai anō a Ruiha, "Me pēhea koe e mōhio ai he tuna kei konā?"
Ka kī atu ahau, "Taihoa. Āianei koe kite ai." Kīhai i roa ka tū i a au he tuna, ka wiriwiri tāku pīhuka. Ka pararē atu ahau ki a Tama, "Nā, he tuna tāku!
Titiro ake ahau, kua oma kē a Heremāia rāua ko Ruiha, nā, kua tata ngaro kē atu i tua o te puke.
Te ngākau kore mataku noa iho i te tuna!"
Ka aroha ahau i taku mōhio, ē, ka ahatia he Māori a rāua, nā te mea he tamariki tāone tauhou ana ki ēnei mea. Ka mea atu au ki a Tama, "Ka pēnā pea tāua ina haere tāua ki Ākarana hōrerei ai. Mataku ana tāua i ngā motokā me ngā pahi pēnei i a rāua e mataku nei i te tuna."
"Āe," hei tā Tama.
Ka hoki māua me tā māua tuna, me ngā pīhuka, nā, tae atu māua ki te whare, e noho mai ana ō māua hoa. Ka mea mai a Heremāia, "Kaua kourua e whakatoi mai ki a māua i tō māua omanga. I te kaha kino o te hanga o te tuna rā, ohorere pai au."
Ka whakahoki atu a Tama, "Kei te pai. E mōhio ana ahau ki ō whakaaro. Nā ina haere atu a māua ki tō kāinga a ērā hōrerei, kaua kourua e whakahāwea ki a māua ina hanga mataku māua i ngā mea o tō kāinga, nē?"
"Kua tika tēnā," hei tā Ruiha.
Te hekenga nui
E hoa mā, i mōhio koutou ki te āhua o ngā tuna nei, arā, ngā tuna tame, e rima ki te whitu ō rātou tau e noho ai ki te wāhi kotahi i roto i te wai reka, arā, i te awa? Nā, mō ngā tuna uwha, e ono ki te iwa ō rātou tau e pēnei ai.
Tae mai ki te wā ka pakeke ngā tuna nei, arā, e tika ai me whānau a rātou kia whai punua tuna ai ngā awa, he pēnei te āhua. Ngā tuna uwha, tā rātou nei mahi he whānau hēki, nā, tā te tuna tame nei mahi hoki he whakatika i ngā hēki nei kia paopao.
Nā, ā te wā e tika ai ngā tuna nei mō te whānau, ka tīmata te heke. Te take i heke ai, nā te mea pea he karanga, he aha rānei. I ngā wā e heke ai rātou ko ngā pō tino pōuri nei, āwhā, ua; he pō tino kino nei, arā, ko ngā pō o te ngahuru.
I a rātou e heke ana, ka tīni haere ō rātou āhua.
Nā, haere ake i ngā awa, kai haere ana, kua tino tuna ngā mea nei. Ka noho rātou, ā, tae noa mai tō rātou wā e haere ai anō, arā, te heke nui ki te moana.
