Ko Kauri rāua ko Tohorā

He Kōrero Tātai

According to oral traditions, in ancient times Kauri and Tohorā were brothers who lived on land. Desperately wishing to live in the ocean, Tohorā left his brother Kauri and gave him his scales in exchange for his oil. Now, with the endangerment of both the kauri tree and Tohorā whales, the people of Te Tai Tokerau have united in an effort to save kauri and tohorā through traditional Māori medicines and customary practices.
