Ka tū te tītī
He Kōrero Tātai
During the time of our ancestors we saw the gradual decline of the Kāi Tahu language until it was close to extinction. In recent years the people have made large strides in the effort to revive the Kāi Tahu dialect and for it to flourish. As a result, the 25-year Kāi Tahu language strategy, known as Kotahi Mano Kāika, was initiated to revive the Kāi Tahu language in homes throughout the South Island. This began in 1999 and fulfilment of that strategy is drawing near.
