Teaching resources to support the updated TMoA
We're developing a range of teaching resources to help schools and kura start exploring, planning and teaching Te Marautanga o Aotearoa as it is updated.
A knowledge-rich curriculum requires a different approach to planning and teaching, and we recognise that many teachers would like examples and outlines to help get them started.
For 2026, we’re prioritising resources for Year 9 content, and supporting the updated Te Reo Rangatira and Pāngarau content.
As well as consulting on the draft frameworks and Years 0-10 content for Te Marautanga o Aotearoa, we’re seeking feedback on the draft resources developed to support teaching.
This is the first time we’ve developed curriculum resources with this level of detail. They’re designed for teachers to use and adapt them while unpacking the draft learning areas.
This means you can pick them up and try them out, and use them as examples to help you plan and develop your own knowledge-rich units and lessons.
We will continue to deliver more resources over time.
Resources available
Online and hardcopy resources to help tumuaki and kaiako unpack, understand and/or implement the new wāhanga ako:
- Commercial texts to support mokopuna in dual medium kura (Level 1 & 2) across Tau 9-10, using Te Reo Rangatira and Pūtaiao wāhanga ako.
- Seven new sets of texts to support Te Reo Rangatira and Pūtaiao for Years 9-13.
- A linguistic items handbook for Years 4-8.
- A range of Pāngarau products for Years 0-8.
- Example annual plan for updated Pāngarau for Years 1-7.
- Example unit plan for updated Pāngarau for Year 7.
- Curriculum overview products to help kaiako unpack Te Reo Rangatira and Pāngarau, including banners and activities around progression and knowledge mapping.
What’s coming next in 2026
Resources will be reviewed and updated to align with the final National Curriculum when it is released in mid-2026.
Term 2, 2026
- Learning kits (made up of unit plans, lesson plans and activities) for Te Reo Rangatira and Pāngarau for Years 9 and 10.
- 45 Te Tautoko books to complete the full linguistic items handbook package.
- Refreshed Hei Tautoko i te Marautanga Pāngarau
- Curriculum overview products for remaining wāhanga ako to help kaiako unpack the draft wāhanga ako
- Teacher Support Materials for the seven previously distributed sets of texts to support Te Reo Rangatira and Pūtaiao for Years 9-13.
- Ten new sets of texts to support Te Reo Rangatira for Years 9-13.
Term 3, 2026
- Learning kits for all wāhanga ako except Ngā Reo
- New journals and accompanying teacher support materials to strengthen language acquisition, cultural literacy, and critical thinking for Tau 7–8 mokopuna.
- Rangararanga Reo ā Tā (structured pānui, tuhituhi supports) – Teacher guidance will be updated to align with the updated Te Reo Rangatira, along with new accompanying resources.
- Poutama Pāngarau (structured Pāngarau supports) – Teacher guidance will be updated to align with the updated Pāngarau, also with accompanying resources.
- Teacher Support Materials for the ten new sets of texts distributed in term 2 to support Te Reo Rangatira for Years 9-13.
