Aneneki te tikanga o wētahi o ngā kupu rerekē;
hai hei
hara mai haere mai
kai te kei te
kāre kāore
kōtou koutou
wēnei, wēneki ēnei
wētahi ētahi
taina teina
whea hea
ināiakanei ināianei
Ngā pūrākau kei roto i te puka nei:

Te okiokinga o te iti a Tūhoe Pōtiki
Tēnā kōtou tamariki mā. Kai te haere tātau ki Ruātoki.
Waihotia ā kōtou pukapuka.
Hara mai! Hara mai! Ka hoki tātau ki Ruātoki. Ki tēneki o ngā rohe o Tūhoe. Whai mai! Whai mai! Ēngari kia tūpato. He kōrero, he kawa, he tangata. Me mōhio i mua i te hīkoi a te waewae tapu.
Katia ō kōtou kanohi. Huakinga ō kōtou whakaaro. Whakatuwherahia. Tukua kia rere. Whakarongo.
He kohu! He kohu!
Tau ana. Tau ana.
Tau tāpapa ana
Ki runga o Maungapōhatu,
Ko Hinepūkohurangi.
Kua uwhia,
Kua uwhia e ia
Ki te kākāhu
Kai hiwi nei
O te kohu.
Ka awhiawhi rāua,
Ngā tahu nei,
I te awhi tangata,
I te awhi aroha,
I te awhi ātaahua.
Ka hono! Ka hono!
Ko tahi te rū.
Te rū nekeneke.
Huri ana i te takahurihuri.
Wiri ana i te takawiriwiri.
Haruru ana ngā koawaawa.
E wāwā ana hoki,
E pūpū ana hoki.
Rewa tū ki te rangi,
Ko rāua i eke.
Eke panuku.
Eke paneke.
Hui e.
Taiki e!
Hurainga ngā rārauwhe,
Ka puta.
Hurainga ngā toka,
Ka puta.
Hikia te kohu,
Ka puta te iti a Tūhoe.
Huakina ō kōtou kanohi tamariki mā. Whai mai. Kia piri. Ka kuhu tātau ki ngā kohu o Tūhoe. Ki roto i te uma o Hinepūkohurangi. Kai tēraka taha he ao tawhito, he ao rerekē, he ao hou. Ka hoki tatau ki te whenua o ngā tūrehu, o ngā patupaiarehe, o rātau mā. Hara mai.
Ai! Ko Tūhoe Pōtiki tēraka. He tipuna. He tangata.
Kaua e wehewehe! Kia tere mai! Arā! He maunga e whakaatu mai rā i ōna tihi. Ko Maungapōhatu. He tohu. He whakatauākī. E hoa! A koe i muri rā. Piri mai kia tata. Kai ngaro koe. Kia tūpato! He wai. Arā! He moana. Ko Waikaremoana. He rua taniwha. Te rua o Haumapūhia. Nā te oreore o tōna tinana ka kare te moana.
Ai. . . e! Ko wai tēraka i mua rā ? He pū tāna. Ēngari, kāre e kite mai. Kaua e mataku tamariki mā. He tangata ia. Nōna tēnei huarahi. Ko Te Turuki ia (Te Kooti). Nāna i hanga te Hāhi Ringatu. Auē! Kua ngaro anō.
Hara mai tamariki mā. Ka hoki anō tātau. Kua tawhiti rawa tā tātau haere. Arā anō te maunga rā a Maungapōhatu. Titiro he tāone. Nō Rua Kēnana tēneki tāone. I koneki ia e whawhai ana mō te ora wairua o tōna iwi. Hara mai tamariki mā. Waiho mai rātau ki koneki.
Hai tohu, hai whakamaharatanga mō ngā rā o nehe rā, me ngā rā kai mua i a tatau. Aneneki, ka whai tātau i ngā koawaawa nei. Kia tae mai tātau ki te awa ka heke ai. Ai . . . . e Kua hiki te kohu. Kua uru mai te whiti o te rā. Kemokemo ana ngā whatu i te mārama. Ka tuwhera ngā whatu . . . .
Ko Ruatoki e tū mai ana.
Ka māwhiti taku haere
Ki ngā tihi o Maungapohatu.
Ki ngā tapuwai o Waikaremoana.
Ka titiro iho,
Ko Ruatahuna.
Ka whai te kekeno i te pae o te whenua,
Ko Te Whāiti, ko Waiōhau.
Rere taniwha i te awa o Tauranga,
Ko Te Waimana.
Ka hoki mai ano au ki raro ko, Ruātoki.
E, ko te aitanga a Tūhoe.
He aha tātau i hara mai ai ki koneki?
He titiro i ngā mahi a te tangata whenua. He whakarongo. He ako. He here tangata ki te tangata.
He mahi o mua, he mahi o muri. Me tika katoa. Ki te kore, ka hē.
